We are excited to share with you a wonderful article written about the Flomenhaft Gallery exhibition "Holocaust Heroes" by artist Linda Stein that was published in 27East!

"Linda Stein's Manhattan Exhibition 'Holocaust Heroes' Highlights Bravery and Empowerment"
by Anisah Abdullah

"In addition to the Heroic Tapestries, this exhibition consists of 20 “Spoon to Shell” sculptures meant to highlight sexual abuse, and one “Protector” sculpture with a Wonder Woman shadow to symbolize a brave defender. It also includes an educational program and interactive events such as lectures and performances.

Ms. Stein’s current art represents human empowerment and focuses on a person’s ability to overcome bullying and oppression. During the educational portion of the exhibition, she discusses with the younger audience what it means to be a hero."

Linda Stein’s Feminist Art has been featured in the New York Post.  This entertaining article explains that since 9/11 Linda has been inspired by the idea of protection.  Her works honor the heroines of the Holocaust who have not received as much attention as their male counterparts.

These works, as part of the Flomenhaft Gallery Women Only exhibition, were one view from December 11, 2014 - February 21, 2015.

"The Fluidity of Gender:" Linda Stein's Traveling Exhibition

7/18/2014

Artist Linda Stein's wearable sculptures are becoming increasingly popular as her seven year traveling exhibition, "The Fluidity of Gender," makes it's way across the country! The idea for these sculptures to be worn "grew out of her sense of vulnerability after the Sept. 11 attacks, with the aim of giving wearers a sense of empowerment and protection. Her targets are any form of institutionalized oppression, such as sexism, racism, and homophobia."

-Quoted from Ula Ilnytzky for AP, the full article can be READ HERE. This article was also shared in other publications, nationally and internationally, such as Huffington Post, USA Today, ABC News, and The Telegraph.

To hear Linda Stein speak about her works and the process of "Body-Swapping," listen here:

Linda Stein was also featured on Good Day NY, Fox Channel 5, hosted by Rosanna Scotto and Greg Kelly! Here she further explains about her work, her influences, and her Bully-Proof Vests. The hosts even try on some of Linda's Wearable Armor to experience and internalize the works themselves:

Have Art: Will Travel! took Linda's art into the streets June 29th marching for NYC Pride! To view the slideshow click HERE.

Body-Swappers were also seen in Watermill, Long Island, July 12th, as part of the Hamptons Tea Dance sponsored by Empire State Pride Agenda. Linda Stein's Gender-Scrambling Series, Bully-Proof Vests, and sculptures were on display. To take a look at her Gender-Scrambling Series click HERE.
