Artist and activist Carrie Mae Weems, whose work is currently included in the
African American Art exhibit at Flomenhaft Gallery, will be discussing her her
belief in artists' social responsibility and her recent activist work, including social reform efforts and public art projects in her hometown of Syracuse, N.Y.

"The responsibility of an artist is to "to make art, beautiful and powerful, that adds and reveals; to beautify the mess of a messy world, to heal the sick and feed the helpless; to shout bravely from the roof-tops and storm barricaded doors and voice the specifics of our historic moment."
